Are there restrictions regarding residents that are accepted at your facility?
If any of the following apply, we would be unable to accept that individual as a resident:

  • Individuals with advanced Alzheimer's.
  • Individuals requiring skilled nursing.
  • Individuals who are medically unstable.
  • Individuals with care needs beyond the capacity of the care staff and the facility. This is described in the residency relocation criteria.
  • Individuals who are incontinent of bowel.
  • Individuals who smoke.

Do you take memory impaired residents?

We will consider someone who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. However, we first require a conference with the family or legal representative, the resident, if appropriate, and the resident’s doctor. The purpose of this conference is to establish an understanding for mandatory periodic evaluations by Rosewood Park. And, to understand the conditions in which Rosewood Park may deem it necessary, in the future, to relocate the resident to a different facility. Finally, a service plan would be developed to identify the needs and services that would be provided by Rosewood Park.

Would a person ever be asked to leave or go to a nursing home?
It is the goal of Rosewood Park Assisted Living to provide services which allow a resident to stay indefinitely. If the health of a resident diminishes, we will recommend a higher level of care. As long as the resident does not require skilled nursing and remains medically stable, they will be allowed to stay in their home. This may entail bringing in family, volunteers, home health care givers, hospice, etc. However, Rosewood Park reserves the right to determine when the time is appropriate for the resident to be relocated.

Do you have a nurse on staff?

Rosewood Park's Director of Health Services is a licensed practical nurse who works with the resident care providers to assess each resident's needs. The Director of Health Services also provides training for the delegation of some nursing tasks to our care staff, when appropriate. We also have a nurse on call in case of emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

What kind of health services can people get?
Assisted Living nurses are trained in nurse delegations. This means the Director of Health Services (DHS) provides training for our care staff to meet a particular need for a resident. This does not mean a staff member can provide this service to anyone else who needs it. The staff person must be trained by the DHS for a specific task for a specific resident. The DHS also provides a review of the service plans, charts, and records. The DHS may also consult with a doctor, resident, and/or family/representatives if changes are noted. The care staff also has the responsibility to notify the DHS of any changes they may observe in the resident’s behavior.

Can a resident have meals served in their apartment?
Residents are encouraged to take their meals in the dining room as this keeps them ambulatory, contributes to needed social interaction and allows the staff to observe any changes in behavior. The exception may be if a resident is ill. When a resident is no longer able to come to the dining room, as an additional service, trays can be delivered for a short period of time. If trays are being sent for more than one week, the Director of Health Services will evaluate the resident.

Do you take residents who are incontinent?
Rosewood Park admits people who are incontinent of bladder, but not of bowel. Some form of bladder incontinence is fairly common in the population we serve; therefore, we are willing to work with people who need assistance in this area. It is important for the resident’s dignity and privacy for the resident to try to manage this condition. The care staff may also be directed to provide assistance to the bathroom when called for, assist with changing bedding when necessary, and with nighttime incontinent products as requested. Rosewood Park works with the resident to develop a service plan to help them maintain dignity and control. This plan may include reminders, assisting with an established schedule that blends with the resident’s lifestyle, or making sure they have the necessary products available.

How do we know how much we will have to pay?
In addition to interviews at the time of application, a service plan is developed with the Director of Health Services, the prospective resident, family or representative. This plan addresses the wants and needs of the resident. Depending on the level of care required to meet those needs, a rate to be paid is determined. This is fully discussed and agreed upon prior to move in. The service plan is then reviewed 30 days after move in and every 90 days thereafter. This process assures all involved that the needs of the residents are being met and that the ongoing services are properly reflected in the service plan and pay rate.

When can we expect a rate adjustment and how much will it be?
Rate adjustments are usually done each spring around March 1st. The amount is determined by a number of criteria such as mandatory wage increases, cost of supplies, inflation, cost of doing business, etc. It is our goal to keep increases to a minimum.

What items and services are not covered in the basic rate?
The basic rate covers the apartment, three meals a day, light housekeeping, all utilities (except personal phone), assistance with scheduled transportation and participation in activities. From time to time there may be additional charges for activities such as the cost of tickets for concerts, exhibitions, museums and the like or for other special events such as lunch or dinner out. The basic rate also does not include incidentals such as beauty/barber shop, guest meals or items such as medications, incontinent products, apartment incidentals such as soap and paper towels, and personal transportation.
